Slot coordination

Slot mobility

An airline can change the route or type of service of those slots that have been allocated to it.

Slots can also be freely exchanged between airlines (swaps), as long as the slots exchanged are going to be used as intended.

The transfer of slots from one airline to another can only be authorized under the following circumstances:

  • between parent and subsidiary companies and between subsidiaries of the same parent company,
  • as part of the acquisition of control over the capital of an airline,
  • in the case of a total or partial take-over, when the slots are directly related to the airline acquired.

The above transactions (exchanges and transfers) may have additional restrictions if slots allocated with the New Entrant priority are involved. For more information on these restrictions, see Article 8.3 of EEC Regulation No 95/93 as amended.
