Airport Carbon Accreditation

Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only global carbon management certification programme for the airport industry, developed by Airport Council International (ACI). It is institutionally supported and independently assesses and recognises airports at different stages of their journey towards comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management through various levels of certification. The compliance with the requirements of each accreditation level is audited by an independent entity and follows a strict external verification process.

In line with Aena’s roadmap to achieve Net Zero by 2030, the company has 19 airports participating in the programme in 2026, with two additional airports joining compared with the previous year.

The ACA accreditation process for the 21 airports is completed in two phases throughout 2026. During the first half of the year, the airports of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Ibiza, Menorca, César Manrique-Lanzarote and Santiago-Rosalía de Castro are certified. During the second half of the year, the airports of Valencia, Seville, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, Bilbao, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Zaragoza and Región de Murcia are certified.

With the accreditation of these 21 Aena airports under this programme, Aena continues to progress towards achieving ACA Level 5 by 2030 as part of its commitment to net zero emissions under its Climate Action Plan.
